When it comes to distributing the teddy bears and books, there is plenty of planning and hard work that goes on behind-the-scenes, so I thought it would help to give you a glimpse into how it all happens.
The part you don't see in the video is the organization of the boxes and bags needed for each distribution that happens in our storage unit. The teddy bears are individually wrapped by the vendor (thank goodness for that especially now) but have to be put into bags, so that they are easier to fit into a vehicle and for people to carry. In this case, a hospital needs a variety of books for several ages (especially board books for the youngest patients), so that takes extra time. For this particular visit, it took me about an hour to prepare.
Then, when I arrive at the hospital to staff usually meets me outside with carts (or sometimes one which requires a few trips for them) to load up the boxes of books and garbage bags filled with teddy bears. It's not a glamorous experience, but then again, it's not meant to be. It's all about the children and knowing that you are making their lives just a bit better with each delivery.
